Conrad Gozzo (1922-1964), was a superb lead trumpet of rare force and vigor. On this album, his only one as leader, "The Goz," as he was often called, was given more than adequate representation and freedom for all his talents, appearing in front of sixteen piece band, a group with strings, and a small band. Featured throughout, he plays with engrossing strength and fire, and his full sound epitomises the trumpet generation of the Forties. The big band sides as well as the others are reflective of the idiom in which this legendary trumpeter had his roots.
