Through explicit instruction, ample practice, and immediate application of skills, students will master grade-appropriate conventions of standard English. Each Level is divided into six units focused on teaching sentences; nouns; verbs; adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions (per CCSS regulations, prepositions only taught in grades 4 and 5); pronouns; and capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
Each lesson has the same easy-to-follow, three-step instructional sequence:
Learn features succinct and bite-sized skill instruction with clear explanations and modeling. Practice includes three scaffolded activities, each building on the prior and increasing in difficulty. Write encourages students to apply what they learned with three types of writing activities: Revising Sentences, Combining Sentences, and Write Your Own.
Lessons are followed by a Unit Review to reinforce learning and a Unit Test in standardized test format to monitor progress.
