Each class is presented separately and there are complete locomotive rosters, including a list of assignment of engines by Division. Engines shown include SW1500 switchers, EMD GP20, GP30, and GP35 four-axle road units, GE U25B and U28B fo-r axle and U33C six-axle road locomotives, Electro-Motive SDP40 and SDP45 passenger diesels and Electro-Motive SD45 and cowl F45 heavy freight locomotives. There are also chapters on the GN's paint schemes, and photos of GN locomotives on foreign lines and during the early days of the BN merger.
