Beautiful, long-lasting wooden building blocks is a childhood essential that every child deserves. Handmade in Europe from solid natural lime wood and stained with non-toxic water based dyes, this set includes 30 block pieces of various shapes (there are 2 of each size/shape block). The shapes and colors of Grimm's Building Set 1 are inspired by Friedrich W. A. FrÃ¶bel's concepts about child development and education. Friedrich W. A. FrÃ¶bel (1782-1852) was a German pedagogue who created the concept of the â€œkindergartenâ€. This 30 Piece Basic Building Set is ideal for young children with its fewer and larger blocks with simple shapes. Later on, children find everything they need for building when you add the 46 blocks in the Supplement Building Set (Grimm's item number 10201). Children can build walls, fences, stalls as well as houses, towers and castlesâ€¦ whatever their play requires to be built. By building and playing with these blocks, children develop fine motor skills and spatial thinking skills. 30 building blocks in a wooden frame. Materials: lime wood, non-toxic water based color stain, and non-toxic plant based oil finish. Size: frame length 17.5 inches (40 cm). Single blocks have 4 cm thickness, lengths vary from 4 to 24 centimeters. NOTE: You may notice some color transference on the wood. This is not considered a defect as the blocks are unlacquered. Grimm's does not use lacquer in order to preserve the natural feel of the wood, keeping in line with their aim to design toys according to principles of Waldorf and Montessori education, which has also been used in the treatment of people with dementia. Unlacquered blocks are also easier to build with as they are less likely to slip.
