Groove: Belgium Popcorn / Various
OUTTA SIGHT presents THE GROOVE, a truly authentic retrospective of the Belgium 'Popcorn' scene that has run parallel to the UK Northern Soul scene since it's inception in 1969. Our 'Popcorn' playlist combines a unique blend of soul, R&B and exotica based largely around the shuffling, fifties, cha cha beat immortalized in Mary Mazza's "Cha Cha Italiano" and Frank Pizani's "Steady Cha Cha". Our album title is derived from the Groove club in Ostend, Belgium, where the 'Popcorn' sound was first introduced by pioneering DJ Freddy Cousaert. As the sound developed - a hybrid of 60s soul, jazz, funk, R&B and American pop - the scene began to take off and came of age in a converted farm at Vrasene, near Antwerp, which was christened the Popcorn. Enjoy the Groove.
