In the late 19th and early 20th century, postcard publishing flourished. Many millions of postcards were sent each year, and buyers could choose among a seemingly limitless variety of designs. Holidays were of course a favorite theme, resulting in some wonderful images, and we think many of them are still worth remembering and sending to friends, or simply treasured for their beauty.
New Year’s Eve presented a difficult challenge to artists, as evidenced by the wide variety of images we found in our large collection of vintage New Year’s Eve postcards, some seemingly having little to do with New Year’s Eve. The selection of thirty images contained in Happy New Year Postcard Book represents the best of postcard’s golden era: champagne, clocks, brooms sweeping away the old year, bells ringing, celebration, and of course an Father Time receding and a baby representing the New Year arriving.
