Highly detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet, a multi-mission all-weather day-night attack fighter. F/A-18 was originally developed in the 1970s by McDonnell Douglas as a carrier-capable multi-role fighter for service with the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The primary missions of the F/A-18 are fighter escort, fleet air defense, suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD), interdiction, close air support and reconnaissance. With continuous development and upgrades, the F/A-18 has evolved into a formidable air-superiority and fleet-defense fighter with versatile attack capabilities. Since September 22, 2006, the F/A-18 E and F variants have replaced the legendary F-14 Tomcat as the primary fleet-defense fighter for the U.S. Navy. This 1/72 scale model kit depicts the F/A-18E Super Hornet single-seat variant, which has a new, 25% larger airframe than earlier C/D variants, larger rectangular air intakes, more powerful GE F414 engines based on F/A-18's F404, and upgraded avionics suite. Model Length: 255mm, Width: 184mm. 117 pieces total. Kit Includes decals for U.S. NAVY VFA-14 "Top Hatters" (USS Nimiz) and VFA-115 "Eagles" (USS Abraham Lincoln). The Super Hornet is a larger and more advanced variant on the F/A-18C/D Hornet. An early version was marketed by McDonnell Douglas as Hornet 2000 in the 1980s. The Hornet 2000 concept was an advanced version of the F/A-18 with a larger wing, longer fuselage to carry more fuel and more powerful engines.
