Haslam System of Dresscutting -- Vintage Pattern Making for 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s Fashions (Haslam Chart and Foundation Draftings)
The vintage Haslam System of Dresscutting consists of three major components needed to complete any of the beautiful vintage patterns found in the over 80 Books of Draftings in the Haslam System: (1) Books of Draftings, (2) Foundation Drafting Book and (3) Haslam Chart. This book contains the Haslam Chart (which requires assembly) and three Foundation Drafting books -- one for the early-mid 1940s fashions, one for mid-late 1940s fashions and Foundation Book 2 used mainly in combination with the mid-late 1940s and 1950s Books of Draftings. FOUNDATION DRAFTING BOOKS: The Foundation Drafting Books provide instructions on how to measure for your foundation pattern, how to make accommodations for different body types and very detailed instructions for using the Haslam Chart to create your foundation pattern which is the "base" pattern for all Haslam Designs in the Books of Draftings (sold separately). HASLAM CHART: Similar to a dressmaking/tailor's square, the Haslam Chart is an easy-to-use template of strategically placed holes, curves, lines and measurements that will enable you to make the vintage Haslam fashion patterns customized to your body's measurements based on the instructions provided in the Foundation Drafting Book and the over 80 Books of Draftings in the Haslam System. Instructions are provided for assembling the template, which measures approximately 11 inches high x 17 inches wide. Using simple supplies (glue, tape, scissors, lightweight cardboard or heavy cardstock) four steps complete the assembly of the front side of the Curve, four steps complete the back side of the Curve and five steps complete the adhering of the front side to the back side. Cutting and matchup lines are clearly marked on each page in bright pink and blue. Assembly takes approximately 45-60 minutes once supplies are gathered. Sample book images are shown at the top of this page. Individual Books of Draftings have been published by Bramcost Publications and can be found on Amazon.
