The seeds were brought to Hawaii from Australia in 1880 and were planted in East Maui in the District of Lilikoi from which the name stayed with the fruit.
- The fruit grows on flowered vines with a mature fruit measuring 1-1/2" to 3" in diameter and round in appearance. It is filled with fragrant juicy pulp and edible seeds. They can be harvested within 1 year from planting to maturity from June thru January. The seeds from a harvested fruit can be replanted almost immediately thereby making it one of the most consistent and most produced fruit in the islands.
