When the doors of an operatic career opened for Ferdinand HÃ©rold in 1820, he took great care to hide away the piano concertos he had written ten years before to avoid accusations of 'eclecticism.' Left to languish in obscurity until our own time, these dazzling pieces are indispensable examples of spectacular virtuosity and Romantic sentiment in which the spirit of Beethoven and Schubert is clearly perceptible. This music is a fascinating 'missing link' between Mozart and Chopin. On this disc, pianist Jean-FrÃ©dÃ©ric Neuburger is partnered with the Sinfonia Varsovia led by HervÃ© Niquet.
