Honduras - a different perspective: Stories from six months living and working in Honduras
Honduras is a country that many people have barely heard of and when Ellie was sent there as part of the ICS (International Citizen Service) programme for a 3 month volunteering placement, she didn’t know much either. But when she arrived, she discovered a beautiful, welcoming and above all, an interesting country. For three months she lived and worked in rural communities directly implementing projects and was so captivated by the country and the people that she went back to Honduras on her own for another three months, this time volunteering in the capital Tegucigalpa.
This is a collection of blogs and articles that Ellie wrote about her experiences in Honduras.
Sometimes serious about politics, international development and gender inequality and sometimes amusing – about how long bus journeys come with their own entertainment and how Hondurans coped with a vegetarian! Compare the health care system with ours that we take for granted and read about Ellie’s experiences of being ill in Honduras.
Hopefully this collection will give you a better view of Honduras, including the inspiring nature of its culture, equally balanced with the struggles that this Central American country faces.
Ellie is a politics graduate with an interest in international development who cannot wait to go back in 2015. Watch this space for more articles then!
