Icon - Walter Gieseking, Poet of the Keyboard
Born in Lyon to German parents, Gieseking worked as an accompanist and opera coach before his remarkable interpretive skills and tonal sensitivity made him an in-demand concert pianist. This 8-CD set is split between the modern pieces he was associated with and earlier classical pieces he also mastered. Along with Debussy's Valse Romantique and Deux Arabesques and Ravel's Gaspard De La Nuit and A La Maniere de Borodine , you'll hear him play Beethoven ( Piano Concerto No. 4 in G; Piano Sonatas No. 8-10 ), Mozart ( Piano Sonatas Nos. 11-13; Piano Concerto No. 23 in A ), Schumann and more!
