In Love With Malta: The Hidden Treasures
What is it about the Maltese Islands that brings an Irishman back to these little multi-coloured rocks year after year, fills him with joy and enchantment, and sends him home restored, revitalised, and eagerly looking forward to his next visit? A good question, I hear you say, and one that I suspect thousands of others have asked themselves but can’t explain the magnetism of the islands or why they like me, became addicted to this idyllic little spot on the planet. In this ‘Guide to the Hidden Treasures of the Maltese Islands,’ I have answered that question. It is well known that Malta is renowned for its heroic history, exquisite landscape and its charming inhabitants, but I have been amazed to find the Maltese Islands so brimful with hidden gems that are not featured or well known, and I figure that without guidance, it might take visitors several trips to discover them. I have been coming for twelve years and I’m still adding to my collection of ‘must visit’ beauty spots, little treasures that you won’t find in the mainstream guide books, but are well worth seeing, and in my opinion, define the charm and mystique of Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta has many fine bustling cities and towns. The capital, the World Heritage City of Valletta, is an amazing example of baroque architecture and is a wonderful testament to the artistry of the Knights who built it all those centuries ago. Today it stands majestically in all its beauty and splendour, adorned with magnificent palaces, richly embellished churches, old world shops and restaurants.
Throughout the islands you will also find lots of sleepy villages and picturesque little fishing ports. But Malta can be lively and modern too with a myriad of restaurants, cafes, clubs and nightlife. There is something for everyone to enjoy from living it up in modern urban resorts to meandering at your leisure in little traditional hamlets and villages dotted throughout the islands where time seems to stand still and you can linger awhile and relax in the warm sunshine. So, come with me on a trek through this ancient paradise of history, beauty and intrigue. If like me, you are addicted to exquisite beauty, fascinated by rich culture or enchanted by warm friendly people, then a stroll through these delightful little islands will fill you with pleasure, gladden your heart and leave you eagerly looking forward to your next visit to the Maltese Islands.
