Mel Torme was known in his early years for his voice's rich, smoky-hued texture. Indeed, such was the smooth, flawless nature of his vocal delivery that he almost seemed to caress the melody of each song he sang. He continues to be regarded as one of the pre-eminent singers of the latter half of the 20th century. Significantly his influence can still be heard, most notably in the music provided by today's new generation of jazz crooners. In a Soulful Mood was originally recorded in 1956 in Hollywood for the legendary Bethlehem label. Torme's smooth, soft vocal timbre can be heard on this fantastic 14 track album. Includes notes by Charles Waring (Blues & Soul, Mojo & Record Collector). Music Club. 2005.
