This tubular instrument gradually broadens towards the lower end. It usually has between six and nine holes. It employs one set ofÂ quadruple reeds, making it aÂ quadruple reedÂ woodwind. By controlling the breath, various tunes can be played on it.Â The shehnai has a range of twoÂ octaves, from the A belowÂ middle CÂ to the A one line above the treble clef.Soak the reed in water for 12 hours before playing.
