Industrial-Occupational Hygiene Calculations: A Professional Reference Second Edition
The response to the first edition Industrial-Occupational Hygiene Calculations: A Professional Reference and Occupational Safety Calculations: A Professional Reference was extremely positive. The books were used as library references, class textbooks, desktop references, handbooks for the traveling professional and widely used as a must have reference for those studying for the various certification exams offered around the world. Obtaining certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional or Registration as a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) is a major career development step and significant challenge. After obtaining certification, practicing professional faces the challenge of remaining current on a range of complex topics. In preparing the second edition we wanted to make sure that we covered each of the equations identified by ABIH and BCSP in their downloadable documents to prepare for their respective certifications. This is a necessity for those using this book studying for certification. For those already certified we felt that the equation lists were comprehensive and if those equations were covered, would meet most any need of the practicing CIH/CSP/ROH. Comparing the 1999 and 2005 lists of equations showed us that there was some overlap between the two equation lists, although not extensive. It was also apparent that almost every professional in either of these fields has responsibilities that fall outside his/her main area of expertise. Consequently, we decided to update and publish a comprehensive reference that would be useful to any safety and health professional at any stage in their career. This book is the result of the combined efforts of a number of well-recognized professionals. The authors were part of the faculty for advanced safety and industrial hygiene courses at the Harvard School of Public Health.. It was clear from these courses and through interaction with other professionals in the field that there is a need fo r a direct, straightforward approach to learning and using the myriad of calculations associated with safety and industrial-occupational hygiene. The format is simple, easy to use and unique. For each equation, the following information is provided; theory and background, an example of its application, the units for all terms in the equation, and a reference. The book is rranged with one equation per page. All the necessary information related to an equation can be viewed quickly and easily. The table of contents actually contains a title and graphic of the equation so you can quickly get to the information you need .The end result is a simple yet thoroughly useful reference book.
