Bob is a senior agent in the Inspector General's office, with military background prior to that. He's a thoroughly tough and dangerous man. And that's probably why they assigned Kelani, the new agent, to him during her probationary period. But his career cost him opportunities at romance, and his new partner is young, and beautiful. He tries hard to retain professional detachment, perhaps succeeding too well, because they can't seem to bond like normal partners would.

Then comes a mission where they have to go undercover ... as husband and wife ... and play the part. She is from another culture, which makes for some miscommunication sometimes. But, right in the middle of their investigation, communication flourishes and they bond.

Boy, howdy do they bond.

And when the bad guy tries to kill her new partner Kelani takes offense and uses her martial arts training to "reduce the threat."
