Jacques Duphly: Pièces de clavecin
One of the last great French keyboard masters, Jacques Duphly was born in Rouen in 1715, the year of the death of Louis XIV, became an esteemed harpsichord teacher and a player in Paris, and died on the day after the storming of the Bastille in July 1789. This recording features Japanese-American harpsichordist Aya Hamada performing a collection of character pieces and stylized dance movements selected from his four books of Pièces de clavecin (1744-1768). Recorded at Chapelle de l'Hôpital Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, Paris on the 'Nicholas Lefebvre 1755' / Martin Skowroneck 1984 harpsichord (ex-collection Gustav Leonhardt).
