Japanese Chess: The Game of Shogi
Shogi or Japanese chess is traditional logical and strategy chess-like game from Japan. Even non-chess players found out that Japanese chess is really fun. The most difference is that all captured opponent's pieces can be returned back to the game as own on any empty square. Another thing is that most of the pieces can be upgraded in the promotion zone (last 3 rows), they get usually more and better moves. In our version the promoted sides have red markings to easily recognize these pieces.
Japanese chess is not much known on the west because of the kanji markings. But in Japan it is a traditional game with a long history and shogi is still popular in these days. We are manufacturing own original Shogi version with both markings (1-kanji + arrows showing moves of the pieces). With this combination you can learn shogi rules in just few minutes. After that is also easy to switch to standard Japanese chess with kanji, which are used for official tournaments e.g. in USA (U.S. Shogi Championship), in Japan (International Shogi Forum) and Europe (ESC/WOSC - European Shogi Championship and World Open Shogi Championship). With our shogi version, we are successful with promoting this game on events, teaching children at school etc. We presented our shogi in Japanese Shogi Association to get approval for using it for promoting and teaching.
Game is for 2 players, recommended age 6+, 1 game takes around 30-90 minutes.
