The father of modern drumming, Papa Jo Jones anchored the Count Basie band from 1934 to 1948. He developed a new drumming technique by minimizing the role of the bass drum, keeping time on the ride cymbal and thus freeing up the drum kit. His playing exhibited so much finesse that he became the most influential drummer of his generation. He recorded and toured with many of the Jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins and Oscar Peterson and led his own trios in New York from 1957 to 1960. This first solo album, masterfully recorded in 1958, features the great Ray Bryant on piano and his brother Tommy on bass. The Jo Jones Trio LP has gone on to become an audiophile classic. Required listening for drummers that want to refine their craft - all selections have been newly re-mastered. [Note: This product is an authorized CD-R and is manufactured on demand].
