We have also replaced zippers with a single industrial Velcro closure to eliminate any zipper-related emergency visits to the vet. The smooth, canvas-like texture of the bed allows dirt, fur, and liquids to slide right off, so cleanup is a breeze. Most spills and messes can be simply wiped off with a damp towel, but if a more intensive cleaning is needed both the removable cover and mattress can be machine-washed in cold water on a delicate cycle. The Original TUFF Bed uses a nesting mattress composed of a lightweight, flexible polyester stuffing that allows plenty of airflow to keep the bed fresh and airy. Moisture passes right through for quick drying, and the channeled mattress prevents clumping and allows nesters to burrow down deep into the mattress without deforming its plump shape.
