Sekouba Bambino is Guinea s most popular singer, and he has many fans around the world. Although he was born into the prominent DiabatÃ© family of griots (hereditary poets and musicians), he became a 19-year-old pop star when he joined the pre-eminent modern Guinean band, Bembeya Jazz National, in 1983. (His Bembeya Jazz bandmates were the ones who started calling him Bambino because he was so young.) Since 1996 he has recorded and toured with the international salsa band Africando while maintaining a successful solo career. He recorded KASSA with producer Ibrahima Sylla in 1997. This album features Bembeya Jazz guitarist Sekou Bembeya DiabatÃ©, pianist Paulinho Vieira, and a duet with the Malian diva Kandia KouyatÃ©.
