Kidz lab Triceratops Dig a Dino Excavation Kit
The fossils of the first Stegosaurus were discovered by the American paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh, in 1877. Capable of reaching weights of over 4.5 tonnes (9920.8 pounds), the Stegosaurus had bony plates/scales that protrude from the back of its neck all the way down to it its spiked tail. Its name actually means "roof lizard" or "covered lizard", because originally scientists thought that the plates overlapped along the back of the Stegosaurus, like the tiles on a roof.
