Kiri Te Kanawa: A Celebration Live at the Royal Albert Hall
The New Zealand operatic wonder captured live in concert. For Dame Kiri Te Kanawa's 50th birthday in 1995, a grand concert was staged at London's Royal Albert Hall. With Dame Kiri herself and a glittering array of guest singers, the concert is included in its entirety here. Andre Previn guest conducts, Dennis O'Neil, the great tenor sings in tribute. Perhaps the treat of the evening, however, comes when a genuine Maori choir from New Zealand serenades perhaps the most internationally famous Maori the world has seen with a selection of traditional songs - a moving experience for all but especially for Te Kanawa. More conventional songs featured in the evening feature well-loved arias by Mozart, Puccini, Strauss, alongside theatre favourites by Richard Rodgers and Leonard Bernstein.
