The book of Hebrews focuses, more than any other book of the New Testament, on the ministry that our Lord Jesus is doing now on behalf of his people. During unstable and troublesome times, it speaks of a kingdom that remains stable. It reminds Christians that their call is not to be complacent with how things are, but rather to pursue God's purpose, following the way paved by the Pioneer of our faith. When we feel discouraged and tempted to give up, Hebrews motivates us to continue on to the eternal city--the true land of the faithful. A book that does all that, in spite of the images it uses, is a book that speaks to the condition of the church throughout the world.
