TP139 - Large Saga Cloak Clasp - Pewter. Sizes: 2 7/16" Long X 3/4" Tall (62mm X 19mm) Handcast in solid jeweler's quality pewter and imported from Norway. Large enough to hold light to medium cloaks or to be used a a fancy jacket clasp. Hand cast in Norway by the artist; this solid pewter jewelry is of the highest quality of level of detail. The Runic inscriptions used on these pieces of jewelry stem from excavations at Bryggen in Bergen. The patterns and designs have been inspired by the ornamental style of the Viking era. Ring brooches are one of the most characteristic articles of jewelry worn during the Viking Age (800-1050 AD). It has the origin of the Roman fibula, and its present day successor, the solje or silver brooch worn with the Norwegian national costume. In the Aett range of jewelry, the artist has been inspired by the traditions of the Viking era to create this beautiful ring brooch, and elements from its design are repeated throughout other pieces of jewelry. Clasp is attached to garments using a machine button stitch or hand sewn on with a button stitch.
