Yes, these earbuds can be used independently. Steps to pair one earbud with a Bluetooth device are as follows:
1) Make sure the earbud and your Bluetooth device are next to each other (within 3 feet, no obstacles between)
2) Turn on the Bluetooth of your Bluetooth device.
3) Take the earbud out of the charging case.
4) Turn off the earbud by pressing and holding the MFB button for 6 seconds.
5) Press and hold the MFB button on the earbud until the indicator flashes red and blue alternately and earbud enters pairing mode.
6) In the list of found Bluetooth devices in your Bluetooth device, choose "ST-BE30-L" (left earbud) or "ST-BE30-R" (right earbud) to pair.
