Lies the Gospels Told You (Lies of the Bible Book 2)
From the Introduction:
Many Christians consider the Bible to be “the word of God†and to tell the story of Jesus; however, in this book, we will take a closer look at the “story†contained in the gospels. There have been many productions telling the “story†of Jesus’ life, which makes it seem like there is a coherent story of Jesus’ life in the Bible. Such things as the three wise men, the birth in the manger, turning water into wine all seem to be integral aspects in the “story†of Jesus’ life, but we will see that these are each only included in one gospel.
We will see throughout this book that there is no single narrative in the Gospels and that the four gospels tell different stories with inconsistencies that are irreconcilable. In fact each gospel writer had their own message that they wanted to convey to readers, which could be the cause of some inconsistencies.
Mark is the oldest of the four gospels and most scholars agree that Matthew and Luke both used Mark as a major source, which is why many of the stories between the three show verbatim agreement. But Matthew and Luke also had their own agendas, so they changed passages from Mark’s gospel or added passages to it in order to convey a different message and set of beliefs, which we will see throughout this book.
And we will also examine whether the cruel and spiteful God of the Old Testament has been replaced by a God of love or if this is just what Christians wish happened in their Bible.
