Cellist Steven Isserlis, one of Britain's best-loved instrumentalists, joins forces with composer and pianist Thomas Ades for an intriguing recital of chamber music. The program includes three of Liszt's arrangements for cello and piano, Janacek's Pohadka and Faure's passionate Cello Sonata No.2. The mystery and sadness of Kurtag's four miniatures for cello and piano lead the listener into the 21st century and to the title track of this disc, which Ades wrote especially for Isserlis. Lieux retrouves is a characteristically thrilling tour de force, displaying influences from all the composers previously featured and many more. The writing for the cello reaches uncharted levels of difficulty, which Isserlis attacks with his typical panache.
