The Gloaming took shape in 2011 when Irish master musicians Martin Hayes, Caoimhin Ó Raghallaigh and singer Iarla Ó Lionáird (ex-Afro Celt Sound System) teamed up with two Americans - innovative Chicago guitarist Dennis Cahill and NYC pianist/producer Thomas Bartlett, aka Doveman - in a bold experiment. It yielded the group a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award, a #1 chart hit in Ireland, and an unprecedented 17 consecutive sold-out concerts at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. This first live album features performances of stunning artistry from what have become annual residencies for the sought-after ensemble, whose busy solo schedules rarely align for their always sold-out touring. Known for his work with St. Vincent, Sufjan Stevens, Father John Misty and more, Bartlett laces dramatic texture throughout with his dark, edgy playing. Never reiterating the traditions of Irish music, The Gloaming come at it askance with spellbinding skill, shining revelatory new light on something old and treasured.
