The Llibre Vermell de Montserrat (Red Book of Montserrat) is a 14th-century manuscript compiled at the monastery of Montserrat in Catalonia. It is named for the red binding into which the collection was placed in the 19th century. These devotional texts containing late medieval songs and dances were written in Catalan, Occitan and Latin for pilgrims who needed something appropriately 'chaste and pious' for singing and dancing. This beautiful live recording, made at the Santa Maria del Pi church in Barcelona, is Jordi Savall's well deserved tribute to one of the most famous manuscripts of ancient music. Included as a bonus is a DVD of the live concert performance (PAL format).
