Southern Surreal
Downtown Nashville, just off the dirty Cumberland River, is a wayward home for junkies, poets, homeless buskers, and starving musicians. In the watering holes that line the neon-studded Broadway Street, music is played twenty-four hours a day by the hardest, tightest, hungriest gentlemen. Each a master at his trade, they fight and wrestle with the sounds of a ever-changing world, hoping to someday master the blues and perform honky tonk ballads like the gone-but-not-forgotten country angels of old. For years there was one band that shone brighter than the rest: Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. As time has passed, the linup has changed and the band's fan base has grown worldwide, but the quartet captured here was the best, sharpest group of villains to ever play under the name. This is a recording dating back to the year 2000, when they were unknown and fighting to live.
