The Lyon and Beyond Travel Guide is a pocket guide to the best of Lyon, written by two award-winning travel experts. It is published in the Beyond Travel series, a series of pocket guides published by the Beyond London Travel website. Other titles in the series include Marseille and Beyond, Bordeaux and Beyond, Toulouse and Beyond, and Montpellier and Beyond, all available for the Kindle.
Lyon and Beyond is an inexpensive mini-guide to France’s second city, and one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Europe. Lyon is also regarded as the gastronomic capital of France – regardless of what they say in Paris.
The book describes the best sights to see in Lyon itself, as well as the wine region of Mäcon just outside Lyon, and the roman remains at Vienne and St-Romain-en-Gal. There is also a special 5,000-word section on the nearby city of Saint-Étienne, a popular destination in its own right, and well worth a side trip of a day or more from Lyon. And beyond Saint-Étienne is the beautiful region of the Gorges de la Loire and Saint-Victor.
The guide also has sections on the best shopping and sporting activities, and recommends a range of personally-selected hotels and restaurants to suit all budgets in both Lyon and Saint-Étienne. For sports fans especially, there is a comprehensive guide to the main stadiums in Lyon - the Stade de Gerland - and Saint-Étienne’s famous ‘Cauldron’.
