The Mahr 817 CLM Digimar series 2D measuring gauge and statistical evaluator has a motorized carriage for measuring in one or two dimensions and uses optical incremental measurement, with a double-reader head and a dynamic probing system, for accuracy and repeatability. The gauge measures in 0.00001" (0.0001mm) increments with a 40" (1,000mm) vertical measuring range. It is programmable for automating repetitive measurement procedures and has an integrated temperature sensor for temperature-compensated measurement. The gauge has built-in functions for measurement and MarCom software for use with USB, RS-232, or Digimatic interfaces and a computer (sold separately), external memory (sold separately), or printer (sold separately). Its two-dimensional measurement capability allows functions such as calculating angles and coordinate transformation, and statistical evaluations such as histograms and Pareto diagrams. It has a backlit graphic LCD display and a rechargeable battery for up to 14 hours of operating time. This height-measuring gauge has a heavy-duty base for stability and a stainless steel slide with an air-bearing system for smooth movement, and is suitable for use in measuring heights and distances in applications such as quality control of machined parts on a production line.

Height gauges, sometimes referred to as gages, are precision measuring instruments that travel on a vertical column (also called the beam) to measure and/or mark the vertical distance from the base of an object in fine units. The vertical position of the gauge and its attached pointer are changed by turning a calibrated screw, or one or more feed wheels. Recorded rotations are read from a scale, a dial, counters, and/or an electronic display. A screw clamp holds the pointer to the gauge. The pointer is typically sharpened to act as a scriber, and can be used to mark a position on a workpiece by scratching its surface. On compatible units, the scriber may be replaced by an electronic touch-signal probe. Height gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering.
