Marvin Gaye, Singer Music Legend 1939-1984 (Sheet of 16) First-Class Mail Forever Postage Stamps 2019 Scott #5371
This stamp in the Music Icons series honors Marvin Gaye (1939–1984).
Known as the “Prince of Soul,” Gaye was one of the most influential music performers of his generation.
The sheet of 16 Forever Stamps is designed to resemble a vintage 45 rpm record sleeve.
One side of the sheet includes the stamps, brief text about Gaye’s legacy, and the image of a sliver of a record seeming to peek out the top of the sleeve.
This postage stamp will always be equal in value to the current one-ounce domestic letter postage price.
Born on April 2, 1939, Marvin Gaye was a singer, songwriter and record producer, who helped shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s. Songs like "Let's Get It On" and "Sexual Healing" have become staples in many black and brown communities. Gaye was fatally shot by his father, Marvin Gaye Sr. on April 1, 1984. He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Gaye joins a number of music icons featured in Postal Service's Music Icons series, including John Lennon and Elvis Presley.
