Mary, Did You Know? is a Christmas song with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984 "when his pastor asked him to write the program for the living Christmas tree choir presentation. It was while he was working on the project that Mark considered what it would have been like to have been Jesus' mother". The music written by Buddy Greene twelve years later. The song has been recorded by many diverse artists, including Christopher Parkening & Kathleen Battle, Gary Chapman, Spoken, Reba McEntire, Michael Crawford, Natalie Cole, Julianne Hough, Brian Littrell, Clay Aiken, Vikki Carr, Heatwarmer, Kimberley Locke, Kathy Mattea, Kalan Porter, Clay Walker, Donny Osmond, Michael W. Smith, Hayley Westenra, Michael English, B.E. Taylor, The Von Trapp Children, This Hope, The Gas House Gang, Kutless, Tony Orlando, Lea Salonga and Steve Decrow, The Airmen of Note, David Archuleta and Pastor Tony Polzella have also performed this live, as so did many other artists.
