pfSense 2 Cookbook
pfSense is an open source network firewall distribution software which is based on FreeBSD operating system. The fact that it provides a plethora of functionalities as compared to a commercial firewall along with being open source; it is used widely and frequently.
The aim of this book is to show the readers how to customize and use advanced installation and configuration for their pfSense system. The book will unleash the firewall functionality of pfSense so that they can transform their pfSense system into an enterprise-level firewall. Using pfSense, the readers will learn how to set up set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and incorporate redundancy and high-availability into their network. Later, the readers will explore and make use of the third-party packages to extend their pfSense system.
With the knowledge provided, the readers will go from being a pfSense users to being able to set up a pfSense system which will provide the functionality of a professional-grade firewall/router at a fraction of the cost.
David Zientara, has been involved in software and information technology since 1995. His initial experience in software was in writing software for digital companies for Oxberry LLC, an OEM company in northern New Jersey.
David’s main programming experience is with C/C++. I have been involved with Linux since the mid-1990s. He set up a m0n0wall router in 2009, but was somewhat disappointed in the lack of support for OpenVPN, so in 2013 he switched to pfSense, and started pfsensesetup.com a few months after that.
