Memories Of The 'Lucky U' Ranch [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED]
The recordings presented here are from the Sons Of The Pioneers' radio show 'The Lucky U Ranch'. All members of the group get their chance to shine, with some fine solo singing from Lloyd Perryman, Ken Curtis and Tommy Doss. Shug Fisher is given his head on the novelty "Too Old To Cut The Mustard", and Hugh Farr not only gives a virtuoso fiddle display on four numbers, he also acquits himself admirably on the sensitive "Thought For The Day" track. A selection of Bob Nolan songs get a good outing, not least the Sons Of The Pioneers' theme song, "Tumbling Tumbleweeds", but don't be fooled by "Little Annie Rooney". Original member Tim Spencer is recalled with his beautiful "Room Full Of Roses" and the joint composition "Blue Prairie". This CD is a reminder of what they sounded like half a century ago, the way millions of people would have heard them through their radio sets, and if the technical quality of the sound is slightly wanting in places, the Sons are revealed as a consummately entertaining and professional ensemble. The generous almost 75 minute playing time will revive memories of their warmth, sincerity and humour.
