Michael Murphey / Lone Wolf / Peaks Valleys Honky-Tonks Plus
After years in Dallas and LA, Michael (Martin) Murphey moved to Austin and became a key figure in its burgeoning progressive-country scene. His 1974 eponymous debut for Epic cemented his reputation as a master song craftsman with Observer; Holy Roller; Ace in the Hole , and more. Lone Wolf reached the pop charts in '78 and features more outstanding originals like Nothing Is Your Own and Arrows in the Darkness . The third LP here (from '79) contains a new twist on his early classic Cosmic Cowboy plus two country hits: Backslider's Wine and his take on Sam Cooke's Chain Gang . Three LPs and five rare bonus cuts!
