Menthol is a compound that naturally occurs in mint leaves, and our menthol crystals are made from distilled peppermint oil that's dried into concentrated little gems for greater potency and easier handling. Just one menthol crystal has twice the potency of the same measure of peppermint oil, with greater purity in flavor and fragrance. ...so what does it do? Menthol activates the temperature-sensitive nerves in our skin that respond to cold, which gives the cooling sensation mint and menthol are known for, just like chilies and spicy things make our skin and palate feel hot.
