*****
Volume # 14 of the Bregdan Chronicles continues the sweeping historical saga that now encompasses 1870.
How many books will be in the Bregdan Chronicles? No one knows yet… Ginny intends to write these character's stories, one year at a time, for as long as she is able to write. She is passionate about bringing history to life through historical fiction. Since she is amazingly healthy, that could be for a very long time! She doesn’t like stories to end any more than you do. This one won't end for a very long time!
Review:Â Â As a follower of this series, I was intrigued when author Ginny broached the subject several times about Granite's age. Before this book was released I wondered how much time Carrie's best friend had left as a character. Although still unanswered, I see we were traveling along the same thread. I find the whole KKK issue interesting and appalling at the same time. Having lived through the troublesome 60s and beyond, I am surprised that we as a nation and as a society are no further along in our racial development than what's portrayed in the 1800s. Makes my heart ache. As always I recommend this series. It's wholesome, I will assume mostly historically accurate, and it makes a reader think about their biases and family indoctrination relating to those biases. Thank you Ginny Dye for being such a positive guide during this period of history.
Review:Â Â Ginny, thank you. You are writing a series I don't think exists except for you. I fell in love with learning the truths about slavery and the civil war through historical novels. They stick with me more than ready a straight history book because I can emotionally connect with the characters.
Of all the series and books I've read, this is the only series I know of that continues beyond the end of the war and into the real issues of reconstruction. I don't believe enough attention is given to this pivotal point in our history. The political corruption that took place during this time created the Jim Crow era and another civil war that silently raged for a continued 100 years. Still to this day African Americans suffer from repercussions of this sorry history.
The main characters in this story represent what we could be if we chose to be better human beings. . I will choose to remember grace and compassion.
