Mockingjay: (Hunger Games Trilogy, Book 3) by Suzanne Collins | Summary & Analysis
Suzanne Collins€ science fiction thriller is an exciting and emotional conclusion to this series about war, love, violence and personal integrity. Story elements that readers loved in the first two books, such as action, graphic depictions of violence and strange new technologies, are here as well, in spades. The plot is fast-moving and filled with twists and turns.
Suzanne Collins€ final book in the Hunger Games trilogy follows heroine Katniss Everdeen from the destruction of her home in Panem's District 12 all the way to the downfall of the evil, tyrannical Capitol. Like the trilogy's first two books, this installment is frank about the violence, pain and loss that comes to a society that is at war. On its surface, it€s just another young adult fantasy novel, filled with heroism and adventure. However, the themes of the novel are actually quite sophisticated and interestingly developed. Much of the book is a commentary on war. However, it also critiques a society that, just like ours, is a little bit obsessed with images and the surfaces of things. It also manages to comment on loyalty, love, patriotism and power, all discussions you wouldn't expect to find in a young adult adventure. The popularity of the novel speaks to the universality of the character Collins has created.
