Following the resounding success of Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs, a #6 US and #20 UK chart album, Marty Robbins returned to the same format for a follow-up album. The material was again a mixture of the old and the new, with Marty's own songs being written in a style that would invoke aural images of days of old alongside the original and authentic songs. Although not a success on the same level as its predecessor, the album still sold significantly well and made #21 on the US charts.
