This thrilling recording around concert performances at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus is set to be a milestone in at least two ways:
It marks the beginning of an extended Deutsche Grammophon collaboration with rising star Yannick Nezet-Seguin the young French-Canadian maestro - surely the most exciting talent of his generation (Edward Seckerson, The Independent, January, 2011) who has already been celebrated from the Metropolitan Opera House New York to Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Scala Milan and the Salzburg Festival.
It is the first of a new Deutsche Grammophon cycle of Mozarts seven main operas in collaboration with Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Universal Music Arts & Entertainment, with the generous and kind support of Rolex and an enthusiastic advocate Rolando Villazon - in love with Mozart!
A truly remarkable cast of world opera stars comes together for a breath-taking concert performance of Mozarts Don Giovanni, with Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Yannick Nezet-Seguin
Deutsche Grammophon artist Ildebrando DArcangelo stars as the rakish seducer of the title, attended by the brilliant Luca Pisaroni as his comic but noble servant Leporello.
The tenor role of Don Ottavio is sung by Rolando Villazon, tenor of the hearts who has made a welcome return to top. His heart-breaking betrothed Donna Anna is soprano star Diana Damrau.
American mezzo soprano Joyce DiDonato is Donna Elvira and young Deutsche Grammophon soprano Mojca Erdmann is the peasant girl Zerlina a role she has sung to great acclaim at the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
Don Giovanni will be presented to media on 11 July 2012 in Baden-Baden the presence of Yannick Nezet-Seguin and other members of the cast tbc to tie in with the performances/recording of Cosà fan tutte with Rolando Villazon as Ferrando, A fantastic opportunity to bring your core classical press.
Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail is planned for 2014, the Da Ponte trilogy will be completed with Le Nozze di Figaro for the next Mozart year 2016. Clemenza di Tito, Idomeneo and Die Zauberflote are being scheduled in the following years.
