The talented and dynamic musicians were performing their traditional music from the Andes region of Peru, Bolivia and their native Ecuador. The rhythms in their music reflect the influences of their rich past and continuous commitment to their distinct present. Traditional wind instruments such as the quena (reed flute), zamponas (pan flute), rondador and antara are hand crafted by the members. The percussion is created by the energy of the bombo, one of the many traditional South American drums. The string instruments include the guitar, violin and mandolin as well as an instrument native to Bolivia the carango. Combine they create the distinctive sound of the Andes. The main purpose of the band is to share the richness of the Andean culture with North America. I am very glad they did. Their music is totally enjoyable!
