Myslivecek: Sinfonie Concertanti, Op. 2
Josef MysliveÄek, although still little-known outside the Czech Republic, was one of the chief architects of the `high' classical style that emerged in Europe in the late eighteenth century. In 1770, he met fourteen-year-old Wolfgang Mozart, who was much influenced by MysliveÄek's Italianate style--an aspect of Mozart's music that scholars have consistently overlooked. The works on this CD, composed in Italy in the mid-1760s, are performed here as string symphonies following an option specified in the original print.
