WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN USING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME?
1. barely open the valve and put peanut butter on the bottom of the feeder. (you can also put small amounts on the sides.) The valve needs to just be barely opened, because if the food is spilling out too fast, your dog will be distracted by it. The goal here is to get your dog to lick the peanut butter off and get her used to just touching the feeder. Putting the peanut butter on the bottom will "glue" the feeder to your floor a bit so it doesnt wobble and scare her. (obviously you need floors suitable for this, not carpet) after she licks off the peanut putter, you can open the valve a bit more for her feeding, and shake some food out. Just let her interact with it for a few minutes first. 2. when she is licking the peanut butter off and interacting with it, you can adjust to just putting peanut butter on the sides, which will allow it to wobble, spin, etc.. This will now teach her "hey it wobbles and rolls, but there's yummy peanut butter and it's not dangerous" 3. The next step is to open the valve a little more and lessen the amount of peanut butter. this will teach her that food comes out of this thing! you may have to help her push it around a little bit. She will probably look to you to do this for her for a few feedings. 4. Open the valve compltely. I eventually ignored her and let her "figure it out" because she now nows it won't hurt her when it moves around, and somehow food comes out. I keep the valve completely open for this step so it is easy for her. It will spill out fast at first but as it empties it will slow down and she will have to put a little work into it.
Some of these steps you will did in 1 single feeding. Adjust placement of peanut butter, and timeframe, and you should be able to get your dog to use this.
