Missa Prolationum
A master of counterpoint, Johannes Ockeghem dominated the Franco-Flemish school for almost forty years. His Missa prolationum has been called one of the most extraordinary contrapuntal achievements of the fifteenth century. Based on freely written material probably composed by Ockeghem himself, it was the first multi-part work to use a unifying canonic principle for all its movements. This recording, performed using manuscript sources, features the Ensemble Musica Nova led by Lucien Kandel. Also included are the motets Alma Redemptoris Mater and Salve Regina.
