Overlanding in the Southeastern United States: GA, SC, NC, TN, Southern VA
This publication is a guide to overlanding in the Southeastern United States to help both new and experienced overlanders get the most out of their off road adventures in this beautiful region of the county. Whether you are an experienced overlander, of just starting out in this activity, we hope this book will answer common questions many of you may have but are too afraid to ask in public for fear of not sounding cool. Hopefully, we have you covered there. And if you are new to the activity, after reading this book, you should know enough about overlanding to know if it is something you really want to get into. Over the course of the book, we will discuss how to select a vehicle for your unique needs and budget, how to equip and modify a vehicle and the purpose of each modification, point out the must-haves versus the luxury modifications and tools, and help you prepare for the challenges you will face on the trails in the Southeastern US. We will explain how a 4 wheel drive systems works and why it’s important for you. We will also cover how to get the most out of your vehicle, how to drive in hazardous conditions, and why communication is important in remote areas and what communications options are available for this purpose. As a leisure activity, overlanding can be tailored to you and your requirements, however we will cover the mainstream styles and less extreme methods (minimalists or ultimate). We will show you how to decide where to go, plan your trip, and what to do along the way and when you reach your destination. Finally, to put everything into practice, we present four possible overlanding trips for you to try, one in each of the four distinct geographical regions we have in the Southeastern US., from the Carolina Coasts, to the Georgia mountains, to the Blue Ridge mountains.
