Bel-Art Scienceware 248801023 pH-neutralizing eyewash is a 4.9% sterile phosphate buffer solution that neutralizes harmful acids and alkalis. It comes in a squeezable bottle with an eyecup that can be used as a standalone emergency eyewash bottle or as a refill bottle for a Bel-Art Plum eyewash station (sold separately). A cap on the eyecup reduces the risk of contamination. The 200mL bottle is small enough to fit in a first aid kit or toolbox. Since the bottle is squeezed to force the solution out, the person being treated can be vertical or horizontal. The solution has a three-year shelf life from the date of manufacture and requires no maintenance. This pH-neutralizing eyewash solution supplements primary eyewash stations that meet the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard Z358.1-2009 for emergency eyewash and shower equipment.

Eyewash stations are required by government agencies responsible for occupational safety, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and are found in industrial facilities, construction sites, and hospitals, among others.
